20% Time Project

4th blog_2019.2.15

This week, I practiced all the chords that I've learned so far and narrowed down to three Jazz songs which are "Fly Me To The Moon," " Billie's Bounce," and "Blue Bossa." My Jazz teacher recommended these songs after considering my piano skills and techniques.

When we play Jazz piano, it is really important to master the chords since all Jazz songs are based on various chords. Musicians usually combine the melody with the chords as they play the song. One of the unique characteristics of Jazz piano is impromptu performance. Imagine any Jazz songs you've listened before at a Jazz cafe or a restaurant. You may find out that a lot them have repetitive melody and rhythm. The player can mix the chords, melody, and rhythm to create a unique piece unless they stick on the main theme and structure.

These days, I listen to a lot of popular Jazz songs and even before I started this 20% Time Project, I loved Jazz music. The unique style, rhythm, and the arcane atmosphere that Jazz creates bewitches me. I strongly recommend you to listen to Jazz songs and experience marvelous feelings that I have experienced. (and open your Jazz eyes:)

The videos that I posted above are the songs that I am willing to play. From next week, I will start learning one of those songs after discussing and getting more advice from my piano teacher.
